Malta more popular than ever, claims Regaldive
With diving tourism to the islands having increased by 20% in five years, and almost half of British divers having explored its underwater world, there’s no doubt that Malta ranks highly on most diver’s holiday requests.
Whether newly qualified or an old hand, Malta and Gozo’s varying depths, diverse sites and striking underwater landscapes offer something new for all abilities. For those most attracted to metal, Malta’s well-deserved wreck reputation will not let them down. Advanced and technical divers will find much to explore at depth, including the Rozi and P29 which rest around 30 – 40 metres, and the historical WWII wreck of the Bristol Blenheim Bomber; one of only five known wrecks of its kind. Those with less experience can explore the shallower but equally fascinating wreck of the Lybian Um El Faroud, and HMS Maori which lies at just 11 – 15 metres.
For divers who are keen to advance and progress their skills, Gozo is home to a range of exciting dive sites for all abilities, most boasting fascinating tunnels, overhangs and swim-throughs to explore. The Blue Hole, located in front of the much-photographed Azure Window, is Gozo’s most famous dive site and reportedly a favourite of Jacques Cousteau. Further north, the stunning Cathedral Cave can be entered at just 5m and leads through to a huge domed vault, where divers can surface. Although there are few fish in the cave, the walls are covered in delicate corals, hydroids, sponges and golden zoanthids. Be sure to take your camera as this is surely one of the most photogenic dives in all Malta.
Seven nights’ self-catering at the Sands Apartments in Malta with Regaldive cost from £340 per person. The price includes flights, transfers and accommodation. Seven days unlimited and unguided shore diving costs from £75 per person to include air tanks, weights and belt.
Seven nights’ at St Patricks Hotel in Gozo with Regaldive cost from £447 per person. The price includes flights, transfers and B&B accommodation. Six days unlimited and unguided shore diving costs from £79 per person, to include air tanks, weights and belt.

Dive Worldwide Announces Bite-Back as its Charity of the Year
Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. The company’s commitment to conservation helps set it apart from other tour operators and we’re certain its clients admire and respect that policy. For us, the affiliation is huge and helps us look to the future with confidence we can deliver against key conservation programmes.”
To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.
Visit Dive Worldwide to discover its diverse range of international scuba adventures and visit Bite-Back to learn more about the charity’s campaigns.
