Rediscovering Fiji’s Pristine Reefs – An In-depth report on the recovery of Volivoli Beach Resort
Earlier this year, Fiji was hit by Tropical Cyclone Winston, the second-largest storm in recorded history. Volivoli Beach Resort sustained a direct hit and has been closed since the storm. However, the resilient staff and determination of the Darling family have helped to fuel a strong recovery effort. As a result, the resort is targeted for re-opening on 1 November.
Recently diving reporter Gareth Bellamy of Dive New Zealand/Dive Pacific visited the resort. His comprehensive report on the progress of renovations, the impressive health of the reefs and more is contained in this feature story.
According to Nick Darling, General Manager of the resort, “We are very fortunate as our background business is construction and this has enabled us to move forward with Volivoli Beach Resort’s reopening. We are grateful for all of the support shown to our staff and family since TC Winston. Our key message is that Volivoli Beach Resort will open bigger and better than before the storm. We are extending our main building and renovating our kitchen, restaurant, dinning and guest services area. We will also be adding an additional 8 Luxury Ocean View Villas with individual swimming pools to our room inventory later in 2017.″
