Mario Vitalini: Changing Faces at the August NUPG meeting (Watch Video)
The August NUPG meeting saw another superb guest speaker take to the virtual stage. Mario Vitalini joined the group to talk about “Using familiar techniques to shoot unfamiliar subjects.”
Lockdown and the restrictions in travel have meant that for many of us our usual diving spots can not be reached. Fortunately, things are starting to ease a bit and some less familiar areas to photographers are starting to reopen. The talk was about how to transfer some of the familiar techniques we are used to working with to photograph the new subjects we will see in front of our lenses in the next few weeks.

As always, the NUPG members also had a chance to show off some of their images in the monthly competition. This month’s theme was “Overhead” and it saw a range of ideas and images from the group.
The winning shot of a sea lion was taken by Caroline Robertson-Brown on a dive under a working oil rig off Long Beach in California.
The two runners-up were both taken by Alex Tasker. The first was of a diver having their hood nibbled by a seal.
The second shot from Alex was of his buddy diving inside a wreck.
