MV Elpida, the new wreck dive in Cyprus
Oonasdivers and their partners Cyprus Diving Adventures, a PADI 5-star Dive Centre based in the lovely coastal village of Pissouri, together bring to their clients recreational and technical diving across the beautiful island of Cyprus, along with an excellent range of accommodation for all budgets.
As part of the ongoing programme to create protected areas of artificial reefs, there is a new wreck for divers in Cyprus, MV Elpida. She is a large 63m commercial vessel from Greece and lies at a depth of just under 30m. The main deck lies at 20-22m and the top of the masts are at a depth of 10m. MV Elpida was sunk last December; wreck enthusiasts can explore the large bridge, accommodation areas, deck and two masts on the outside, and container, engine room and three decks of quarters inside.
As with other artificial reefs in Cyprus this new dive site, over the coming months, will be colonised by marine life, growths of flora and fauna and will soon develop its own diverse eco-system. Large shoals of fish have been attracted to the wreck followed by hundreds of hunting amberjacks. Breams are already on the decks as are triggerfish, trumpetfish, fish fry of all types and groupers to name just a few!
The Zenobia wreck and Limassol wrecks have already been a great success and the marine eco-systems there have exploded. Cyprus Diving Adventures offers day trips to the Elpida with two dives or alternatively with a dive on the Elpida and a dive on the Zenobia wreck on the same day.
Bespoke ‘Wreck Week’ itineraries can be created to suit your requirements so please get in touch with the Oonasdivers team for more information.
