Six year old conquers Three Peaks Challenge for Deptherapy
Six year old Lucas Lawrenson is believed to be the youngest person ever to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in under 24 hours after conquering the epic Three Peaks Challenge with his Dad Adam this week.
The father and son from Sutton Manor, St Helens, were raising money for scuba diving rehabilitation charity Deptherapy and have raised around £1200 to date.
Army veteran Adam Lawrenson joined Team Deptherapy last October and wanted to give back to the charity that has helped him come to terms with his experiences in Afghanistan and other armed conflict.
Lucas and Adam completed the challenge in an incredible 23 hours, 46 minutes and 24 seconds. The Three Peaks Challenge comprises a total walking distance of 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft). The total driving distance is 462 miles.
Adam said: I am super proud of how a six-year-old can achieve something like this. A moment of pain is a lifetime of glory. It is proof that, with the right guidance a child is capable of anything. He’ll be climbing Everest at 15!”
Richard Cullen, Chairman of Deptherapy said: “This is an incredible achievement. Adam is an amazing man and a devoted father. Everyone at Deptherapy is very proud of Adam and his hero of a son Lucas. The charity salutes you both.”
The money raised by Adam and Lucas means that another veteran who has suffered life changing mental and/or physical challenges will be able to join the Deptherapy programme.
You can still donate through their JustGiving page here.
