Lisa Mongelia Named Director of History of Diving Museum

Published

on

museumThe History of Diving Museum in Florida has announced Lisa Mongelia as its new Museum Director.

Lisa (a.k.a Lisa Mongy) has been an active Dive Control Specialist Instructor and advocate for the US diving community for over 35 years. After graduating from the NASDS College in San Diego, she moved to Miami to teach private and college classes. Her love of the sport and determination helped her succeed in breaking through the gender barrier of the late 1970’s as one of the few female instructors in south Florida. Over the years, her passion for the ocean has continued. In addition to teaching, she has published numerous articles on dive adventures, enjoys taking part in various fish surveys, lionfish round-ups, reef clean-ups and assisting wounded warrior groups to participate in underwater DPV racing.

Aside from being a dive professional, Lisa studied Law Office Management at FUI. She goes to the Museum with over 30 years of administrative and management experience. She also holds a certificate in Professional Leadership from ARMA International. While juggling her two careers, Lisa raised two boys, who are both certified divers. She spent years volunteering with Boy Scouts, before moving on to KAPOW (Kids and the Power of Work).

She is excited about the opportunity to help guide the Museum to the next level of excellence in education and exhibits as they enter their tenth year of operation.

“I couldn’t be happier. This is a natural fit between my life-long passion for diving, career path and community outreach. I feel truly blessed.”  Lisa commented on her first day. Museum co-founder Dr. Sally Bauer stated, “Lisa has been a friend of the Museum for several years. We are delighted to have her on board.”

You can stop by and welcome Lisa to the Museum or drop her a message at director@divingmuseum.org. Through its interactive exhibits, the History of Diving Museum tells the 5,000 year old story of man’s quest to explore beneath the sea. It holds one of the world’s largest collection of authentic diving artefacts and is home to a world-class research library. Open daily, 10am-5pm. www.divingmuseum.org.
