Pure Grenada Dive Fest – Wreck Diving

Published

on

Day 4 of the Pure Grenada Dive Fest was dedicated to wreck diving. Grenada is possibly most famous for its wreck diving, with the Bianca C known also as the “Titanic of the Caribbean”. The island has sunk several ships to act as artificial reefs and our morning two dives with Dive Grenada were dedicated to diving two of these: MV Anina and the Veronica L.

Dive Grenada has a lovely dive shop situated right on the beach and we recieved a warm welcome as we joined them for our morning dives. As it was wreck day, we both had wide angle lenses on our cameras, and soon regretted it as our guides told us of the numerous small frogfish that lived on the MV Anina. As soon as we descended onto the wreck, they were pointing out frogfish and found 6 in total! The wreck itself is in deeper water and so you need to either dedicate a couple of dives to the wreck, or in our case, get a move on to explore it in a single dive. All too soon, having explored the structure, it was time to head back up.

Our second dive was on the Veronica L (you can read about our night dive on this wreck in our previous blog). This dive was a real treat. Once again, the wreck was covered in life, with thousands of fish schooling around the structure, raining down on us as we dived.

Our final dive of the day, with Native Spirit, saw us visit the famous underwater sculpture park. Alas, the visibility had reduced dramtically, make photography challenging, but this is a must do dive (or snorkel) where you can tour all the sculptures and also visit a small wreck that is covered in life.

Another wonderful day of Pure Grenada Dive Fest was done. You can read more about our adventures in the latest issue of Dive Travel Adventures by picking up a copy at your local dive shop, or by clicking here.

If you want to try out Pure Grenada Dive Fest 2020 for yourself, it will be held from 3rd to 9th October and details will be posted here.
