Bunaken Oasis Dive Resort & Spa wins World Travel Awards 2019 for the second time
Best Boutique Collection is proud to announce that its member resort in North Sulawesi has been honoured as Indonesia’s Leading Dive Resort.
Bunaken Oasis Dive Resort & Spa celebrated a huge success at the World Travel Awards gala ceremony held at Vinpearl Convention Center in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. For the second time in a row, the rather young Boutique Dive Resort received one of the prestigious “Oscars of the travel industries”.
For the 26th time since its establishment in 1993, the World Travel Awards covers the globe with its Grand Tour – a series of regional gala ceremonies to recognise excellence across all sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Last Saturday night, the tour stopped in Phu Quoc in Vietnam to announce and honour the award winners of Asia and Oceania. The gala ceremony is regarded as a milestone event in the industy calendar, attended by the industry’s key decision makers and figure heads, as well as key trade and consumer media.
Recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, the World Travel Awards sets the benchmark to which all others aspire.
Elaine and Simon Wallace, owners of Bunaken Oasis Dive Resort & Spa are thrilled about the huge success: “To win this prestigious award for the second consecutive year is an achievement that we as a team are extremely proud of. It is the perfect recognition of our high standards and authentic concept at Bunaken Oasis. The award is for the entire team, who works with great enthusiasm to ensure that guests enjoy a truly memorable stay on Bunaken Island with us.”
Bunaken Oasis Dive Resort & Spa redefines exclusivity and diving in North Sulawesi. Accommodation as well as diving operations meet the highest quality and service standards making it the place of choice for divers, snorkellers and nature lovers alike to fully enjoy Bunaken’s treasures.
Beautifully located on Liang Beach on Bunaken Island, it is located in the heart of Bunaken National Marine Park – a diver’s paradise that enchants with a great abundance of marine life, impressive walls and prosperous coral reefs due to its priviledged location right in the centre of the Coral Triangle. A spectacular infinity pool, twelve stylish cottages, a tranquil spa, its restaurant with excellent cuisine and a multi-level cocktail bar are just some of the facilities that distinguish the elegant Boutique Resort.
The resort offers a 5-star experience whilst keeping the ecological footprint at a minimum. The respect and care for the unique nature in Bunaken is already reflected in the sensitively designed infrastructure of the resort; with various initiatives and projects, the owners support a large number of local community projects. Winning at the World Travel Awards 2019 honours these efforts and the fantastic work of “Indonesia’s Leading Dive Resort”.

Dive Worldwide Announces Bite-Back as its Charity of the Year
Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. The company’s commitment to conservation helps set it apart from other tour operators and we’re certain its clients admire and respect that policy. For us, the affiliation is huge and helps us look to the future with confidence we can deliver against key conservation programmes.”
To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.
Visit Dive Worldwide to discover its diverse range of international scuba adventures and visit Bite-Back to learn more about the charity’s campaigns.
