Girls That Scuba launch female only underwater photography competition
The first ever female-only underwater photography competition has been launched this month by Girls that Scuba – the world’s largest female dive community.
As a community that aims to empower, encourage and educate women in all aspects of scuba diving, it came to their attention recently that female underwater photographers were somewhat under-represented and they wanted to do something to change that, saying:
“We believe every photo and video has a story and we are not looking for “the best” photo or video, we are looking for the story behind it, the effort it took and the hurdles you jumped through to get the shot.”
The competition is split into four categories: Beginners, Wide Angle, Macro and Videography. Two female underwater photographers have been appointed as judges to decide on each categories first prize. They are Adrienne Gittus from Soul Water Productions, a photography, videographer and technical diver who has supplied footage to the likes of CNN, ARD, Discovery and National Geographic. Judging alongside her is Claudia Schmitt from The Jetlagged, an action-loving filmmaker and passionate diver always on the search for adventures from the Polar Circle to the Equator. Her documentaries have been shown at film festivals worldwide and have won international awards.
The judges will pick their winner from each category and present them with one of the following prizes from the Girls that Scuba sponsors: A Paralenz dive camera, a £500 voucher from Simply Scuba, a trip on board an Emperor Liveaboard in the Red Sea, or an ISOTTA GoPro housing. The entry with the most votes will receive a personalised waterproof Diveproof logbook and some goodies from the Girls that Scuba online store.
The competition will run until 13/10/2018 and is limited to one entry per category per person. You must be a female to enter and each category has it’s own page. Please enter and vote in each category here:
