Diving with… Juan Carlos Fonseca Cubillo, Scuba Caribe, Costa Rica
In this ongoing series, we speak to the people who run dive centres, resorts and liveaboards from around the world about their businesses and the diving they have to offer…
Juan Carlos Fonseca Cubillo
What is the name of your business?
Scuba Caribe
What is your role within the business?
Dive Team Leader
How long has the business operated for?
Over 25 years.
How long have you dived for, and what qualification are you?
I have dived for almost 6 years. I am an EFR instructor and dive instructor.
What is your favorite type of diving?
Recreational diving.
If you could tell people one thing about your business (or maybe more!) to make them want to visit you what would it be?
I will recommend them to experience a new world underwater, not just because they can turn it into sport, but also it is a very relaxing activity.
What is your favorite dive in your location and why?
The Night Dive because it is a different experience, as you are able to see species that you cannot see during the day and the fish are more calm.
What types of diving are available in your location?
The destination has to offer something for both beginners and certified divers.
What do you find most rewarding about your current role?
As an Instructor the most rewarding thing is to teach and as a Dive Team Leader it is to be a good idea provider to improve great services.
What is your favorite underwater creature?
Eagle Ray.
Are there any exciting changes / developments coming up in the near future?
Yes! We are working on a bigger vessel, which will definitely put us in an advantageous position against other dive companies in this area.
Is your center involved in any environmental work?
Yes, we regularly clean the beach and underwater. During each customer briefing we create consciousness about the marine environment.
How do you see the SCUBA / Freediving / snorkeling industry overall? What changes would you make?
I think they are very attractive sports, there is not any better way to know another world. In my opinion, there is nothing that I would change at the moment.
What would you say to our visitors to promote the diving you have to offer?
I recommend the different specialities and different dive levels, this experience will help them grow to be an excellent diver.
Where can our visitors find out more about your business?
