BSAC’s Try Tech event at Stoney Cove hailed a success
BSAC’s first Try Tech event has been hailed a success, with 50 divers taking up a 30-minute rebreather try dive at inland dive site Stoney Cove over the weekend of 20/21 May.
Hosted by BSAC East Midlands Coaching Region with support from NDC’s Technical Group, Try Tech offered have a go sessions for ‘CCR first-timers’ as well as the chance for existing rebreather divers to try a different unit. The event was supported by APD Inspirations, Poseidon Se7en, Dive Soft Liberty and VMS Redbare.
As well as half-hour instructor-led open water dives, the weekend also offered divers rebreather presentation sessions and the opportunity to talk one-on-one with members of the technical and regional team.
Mike Rowley, BSAC Technical group lead, said the weekend surpassed all of the Try Tech team’s expectations: “I think we can safely say it achieved the aims of promoting BSAC Technical and our technical training courses, introducing people to rebreathers and BSAC as well as providing rebreather divers with the opportunity to try different rebreathers in a real dive. We were very grateful for the support from all four manufacturers.”
The Try Tech event was a pilot which the BSAC team now hopes will point the way for future similar events.
“We now intend to build on the success of this to run further events and expand the activities we offer to cover open circuit technical diving and offer courses over a weekend event and at different venues around the country. Watch this space!” Mike added.
