The countdown is on – just days to go until the Plastic Challenge!
With 8 million tons of plastic entering our ocean each year, 300 billion pieces of plastic in the once-pristine Arctic Ocean, and plastics now getting into our food chain, we have to drastically reduce the amount we use.
Could YOU live without single-use plastic this June?
Our convenience-driven lifestyle is getting out of hand. Do we really need pre-boiled eggs in individual plastic containers? Or pre-sliced apples in plastic packets? Couldn’t we refill our detergent bottles rather than buying a brand new one each time?
With global plastic production set to increase nearly six-fold over the coming decades, and half of this used for single-use items, we need to act now to reduce our dependence on the stuff.
There are heaps of ways you can reduce your dependency on plastic. Why not take on the Plastic Challenge and ditch your plastic-packed lifestyle this June? Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.
