Greetings from San Benedicto!
We have finally made it to our first dive site – having driven from Manchester to Heathrow, flown to Los Angeles and met up with most of our group, had a night out, flown to Cabos San Lucas, met up with some more of the group, had a night out, and then set sail on Nautilus Belle Amie to our first of three islands in the Archipelago Revillagigedo. The sail from Cabos took 30 hours!
But we are here and we woke up with the sound of the anchor chain being lowered, the sun rising, and immediately saw dolphins playing around the boat, followed by humpback whales surfacing and diving just off the bow. Our first dive was scheduled for 7:30am and we were all looking forward to it.
We are diving from the liveaboard Nautilus Belle Amie with 30 divers and 1 non-diver in our group, and whilst we are only one day into our 6 days of diving, we are already very impressed with both the boat and its crew. With 4 meals a day, plus snacks and a constant supply of soft drinks being thrust upon us, we will certainly not starve.
The diving so far has given us plenty to be excited about with huge mantas that are happy to approach groups of divers and lots of sharks. To have already seen at least 5 species at our first dive site is incredible. The group has encountered a Tiger Shark, Whitetips, hammerheads, Silky Sharks and Galapagos Sharks. Sometimes the currents have been ripping, making some of the diving challenging, but it has been well worth it.
Alas, the internet connection is not so great, so we can only hope that some of our images make it to you to go with these words! Tomorrow we head to Socorro Island for more underwater adventures.
