BSAC launches Open Water Instructor Refresher Day
Are you a newly qualified Open Water Instructor (OWI) and want to develop your skills? Or did you qualify some time ago and need to brush up on your skills and knowledge? Then the new OWI refresher day could be for you.
The Open Water Instructor (OWI) Refresher is a one day event giving OWIs a chance to practice their teaching under the guidance of experienced Instructor Trainers, receive development hints and tips, and get feedback on open water instruction.
To be held at inland sites, the day is an opportunity to practice some of the common lessons from within BSAC’s Diver Training Programme as well as some of the more complex techniques, using standard diving and teaching equipment.
The first two days have now been scheduled – 18th March at Cromhall Quarry (South Gloucestershire) and 22nd April at Capernwray (Lancashire) – with more to be rolled out across the regions following these two pilots.
The refresher day will involve a short dryside session, with the remainder comprising of practical workshops to develop in water teaching skills.
The OWI Refresher is an ideal opportunity for both new OWIs to develop their new found skills and for seasoned OWIs to learn new teaching techniques and update to the latest recommendations in the Diver Training Programme. It is also perfect for people that may have qualified as an instructor some time ago and wish to brush up on skills and knowledge to get involved again.
The Refresher Day costs £40 and entry level is BSAC Open Water Instructor.
