UWP News from DEMA: X-Adventurer
As we walked through the show on Saturday, Linda called out to us from the X-Adventurer stand wanting to show us some of their new lights & accessories. With the video lighting market being so competitive, it is sometimes hard to know where to turn. Linda, and company owner Gary, talked us through 3 video lights that they thought would interest us.
The first model, the M2600, has two versions (WSRT or WRSU). Both have easy to use controls that offer the user 10 power level settings and both offer modes for floodlight, spotlight and red. They both have battery level indication lights to give you an idea of how much life you have left in your light. They also both come with a YS and ball mount for adding to your existing camera setup. The difference between the two models is in the final mode setting. The WSRT allows you to change the colour temperature from 3500 to 6500 Kelvin. This is the first time we have seen this function in action and can see us having plenty of fun trying this out and seeing what setting gives the best images in different underwater conditions. The WRSU has a UV light mode for those that want to photograph coral fluorescence.
Our attention was also drawn to the M3800, a high CRI light that also offers the floodlight, spot, red and uv settings, as well as 20 power settings. X-Adventurer offers a couple of great accessories with the light. The first is a snoot that fits over the top of the light and offers 3 options for snoot size: 3mm, 8mm or 15mm. This also comes with a red and a blue filter to give different effects in blue and green waters. You can also fit a fibre optic remote control to one or two of these lights and mount it to the arm of your camera system.
We are really looking forward to getting these two X-Adventurer video lights into the water and testing them. The team have kindly agreed to send us the lights, snoot and remote control to test for Scubaverse. We will post out findings here soon.
Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.
