Name a Manta and win a BCD at DIVE 2013 with Scuba Tours Worldwide
Visit UK based tour operator Scuba Tours Worldwide at DIVE 2013 to win a fabulous AP Diving ‘Commando Escape Sub Three Zero’ BCD worth more than £300! All you have to do is enter the Scuba Tours Worldwide ‘Name the Manta’ Competition.
This beautiful female manta ray was first seen in the Maldives in 2007, when she was pregnant, and she has been spotted a few times since – usually in Ari Atoll. She is currently known as 1850 D587, and Scuba Tours Worldwide think she deserves a proper name – so they are running a Competition at the upcoming show, which will be held at the Birmingham NEC on the weekend of the 26th and 27th October 2013. To enter, you just need to go along to their stand – No.530 – and suggest a name by signing up for their newsletter. The lucky winner will be announced at the show before it closes on Sunday.
Scuba Tours Worldwide have been running dive trips in the Maldives for 24 years and have built up extensive knowledge about the behaviour and migration patterns of manta rays. “The manta population in the Maldives migrates from one side of the atolls to the other, according to the season, so that they can feed in plankton rich water. We normally see manta on ‘cleaning stations’ and we know many dive sites where this cleaning behaviour takes place” said Rob Bryning, owner of Scuba Tours Worldwide. “Anne-Marie, Cruise Director on our own liveaboard, the MV Sea Spirit, has a PhD in Manta Behaviour and Ecology in the Maldives and the manta to be named is one of hundreds that she has logged in her extensive database.”

Dive Worldwide Announces Bite-Back as its Charity of the Year
Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. The company’s commitment to conservation helps set it apart from other tour operators and we’re certain its clients admire and respect that policy. For us, the affiliation is huge and helps us look to the future with confidence we can deliver against key conservation programmes.”
To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.
Visit Dive Worldwide to discover its diverse range of international scuba adventures and visit Bite-Back to learn more about the charity’s campaigns.
