Dr. Robert Hueter confirmed as latest speaker to appear at Shark-Con 2014
The organisers of Shark-Con have announced that Dr. Robert Hueter is the latest speaker to confirm his appearance at the event on the weekend of 3rd and 4th May 2014.
Dr. Hueter is Senior Scientist & Director of Mote Marine Laboratory’s Center for Shark Research (CSR). He joined Mote in 1988 as a Postdoctoral Scientist, was promoted to Staff Scientist and Manager of Mote’s Shark Biology Program in 1990, was appointed Director of the CSR in 1992, and was promoted to Mote Senior Scientist in 1994. In 2001, Dr. Hueter was awarded Mote’s Perry W. Gilbert Chair in Shark Research. As Director of the CSR, a national research center developed in cooperation with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and other institutions, Dr. Hueter supervises research, educational projects, and international exchanges on issues dealing with sharks, skates and rays. He also coordinates the National Shark Research Consortium (NSRC), a coalition of four research organizations (Mote, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, University of Florida) with leading programs in shark research.

Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.
