World Scuba depth record diver to speak at DIVE 2014
Ahmed Gabr has just broken the world scuba depth record with a dive to 332-m, and his dive-planner and deep support diver Sam Helmy is an exciting late addition to the speaker line-up at DIVE 2014, at the NEC Birmingham on the weekend of the 25th and 26th October.
The record dive was carried out in the Red Sea off the Dahab coast, where Gabr hit his maximum depth of 332.35m within 15 minutes. Thereafter, a slow ascent with extensive decompression was required in order to surface without injury.
It took over 14 hours to complete – and Sam Helmy, of h2o Divers Dahab, will be giving Dive Show visitors the inside story of its planning, involving 20 training dives and an on-the-day team including 15 support divers.
The talk represents a fascinating addition to an already-impressive line-up of top divers set to speak at the show, which includes Jack Ingle, Monty Halls, Andy Torbet, Andrew Fox, Mark Powell, Martin Edge, Saeed Rashid, Nigel Wade and Paul Duxfield.
DIVE 2014 will feature around 250 companies offering diving gear, holidays and services.
There will also be many special attractions. These include two in-hall diving pools, the popular PhotoZone, the British Isles Experience, the Asia-Pacific Showcase and the Caribbean Village.
And for those with training as well as travel in mind, experts from the likes of PADI, BSAC, SSI and SAA will be offering guiding hands throughout the weekend.
There will also be a free-to-enter draw for all Show visitors to win a dream dive trip for two to PNG worth £12,500 provided by UK based tour operator Original Diving.
DIVE 2014 opening times are 9.30am-6.00pm on Saturday 25th October and 9.30am-5.00pm on Sunday 26th October.
Ticket prices start at just £8.50 for groups of 6 or more divers (a saving of £4 per person off the full price of £12.50).
You can book tickets to DIVE 2014 here.
Sam Helmy will be appearing in Ocean Theatre 2 at 4.05pm on both days of the show.
