Abundant mantas and whale sharks with Emperor Maldives
The 2017/18 season is already shaping up to be a memorable one at Emperor Maldives. So far this year, there have been a large number of sightings of whale sharks making their casual, gentle, relaxed way to the back of the boats as they moor for night-time. Not unusual but certainly gratifying for the guests aboard these spacious liveaboards. And the mantas have been around in abundance for both divers and snorkelers.
Emperor Maldives has exciting dive trips sailing a range of routes from ‘Best of the Maldives’ to the ‘Deep South & Southern Sharks’ that, whilst not guaranteeing to see these magical beasts, certainly know how to get the best chance thanks to the intimate local knowledge of their dive guides.
The Maldives certainly has its seasons but when diving, the need for blue skies and constant sunshine diminishes in the face of scoring that bucket-list dive destination. With its gentle climate and year-round temperatures between 26C-30C, there is an itinerary to suit divers of all levels and, this is good too, for those who don’t dive. Emperor’s liveaboards are spacious with sun decks, some with Jacuzzis, private patios and lend themselves perfectly to snorkelling, swimming and just letting the world go by. Indeed, non-divers are so welcome they get free snorkelling equipment and a $50 voucher to spend on board.
All six Emperor Maldives liveaboards offer fine accommodation and service with full board, free Nitrox and local transfers. Seven-night trips start from £1091 / €1299 per person sharing a standard twin berth cabin. 10-night trips are also available. Prices do not include international flights. Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.
Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”
Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.
