Couple’s “Deep” Relationship to be Fulfilled in Blue Cavern Aquarium
Cindy Shaw and Captain Patrick Smith, a couple whose chance meeting at a Long Beach SCUBA Show led to hundreds of hours underwater together, will be tying the knot underwater at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.
The couple will make their vows from inside the huge Blue Cavern exhibit at the aquarium and will be attended by all manner of local piscatorial well-wishers that reside there. Using high-end dive gear with communications, friends and family will observe and officials will conduct the ceremony from outside the 142,000-gallon, nearly three-story high exhibit. In a quest for a unique proposal Patrick “popped” the question 80-feet down on a Santa Barbara shipwreck shortly after a great white shark cruised the site – How could a girl refuse?

Initially plans were to have a simple civil ceremony, but at friends urging and with help from aquarium staff the underwater event has come into being.
Guests to this invitation only event will include notables from government, education, science, medicine, industry and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. The bride will be in black (rubber) with mermaid tail and pearl studded starfish top while the groom will sport traditional black (rubber) with cummerbund and tie.
The wedding will take place on March 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Scubaverse.com wishes the happy couple the very best of luck on their big day.
