AirBuddy Brings the Ease of Snorkeling into the World of Diving (Watch Video)

AirBuddy is innovative, small, light-weight recreational dive equipment that makes discovering the underwater world easier by eliminating the hassle and bulk of traditional SCUBA diving gear. It is made up of three basic components: a battery-powered air compressor, a supply hose, and a regulator (mouthpiece). The air compressor pressurizes surface air that is then delivered to the diver through the supply hose with a regulator. This allows for 45 minutes of diving at a depth of up to 12 meters.
While the concept is simple and has been around for years, AirBuddy is built using today’s most innovative technology. In fact, the inventor of AirBuddy holds a patent protecting six of these key innovations that make it the world’s smallest and lightest surface-supplied breathing apparatus. This cross between SCUBA and snorkeling is easy to set up. By simply charging the 12V battery (3.5 hrs to fully charge via standard electrical socket) and connecting the hoses, it’s ready to use. It can even be transported on a plane, so it can be taken along on vacation.
“We created AirBuddy to provide an easy alternative for shallow water diving. We aren’t trying to replace SCUBA, it’s still great for deeper dives. We wanted to make diving just as convenient as other sports; a sport where you can just grab your gear and go. It was created to eliminate all the hassle, time, and expense that comes along with preparing for SCUBA diving and it’s perfect for reef diving which is where countless species of sea life can be found,” says inventor Jan Kadlec.
Passionate diver, lifehacker, and corporate development professional, Jan Kadlec invented AirBuddy along with a team of fellow diving enthusiasts with skills in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and communications. They have now finalized their design after almost three years of development and testing. All together they have gone through five generations of prototypes, of which many of the parts had to be specially designed specifically for this model.
The AirBuddy vision is to bring the ease of snorkeling into the fascinating world of diving, so that more people can explore and appreciate the beauty of our marine life.

Fourth Element release new freediving suit

For 20 years fourth element have been pioneers of underwater thermal protection, experience they now bring to freediving.
Designed for recreational freediving, their new RF collection uses a optimum combination of Glideskin, Smoothskin and lined neoprene to maximise your freedom in the water, allowing you to focus on your breath, visualise and reach your limit.
The 3/2mm RF1 suit is easy to don, yet effectively sealed by Smoothskin seals at the wrists, ankles and neck. A ‘black-out’ zipper and robust inner linings ensure that this suit is more versatile than open cell suits, but water ingress is minimised keeping you warmer for longer.
Glideskin panels over the shoulders and along the legs give excellent stretch, improving fit and hydrodynamics, while subtle knee protection and more durable linings elsewhere ensure that this suit is practical for freediving in many environments.
The RF1 suit can be combined with the new RF vest to enhance thermal protection. This creates 6mm on the critical torso area and 3mm protection for the head, keeping suit flush to a minimum without adding restrictive bulk.
