Mission Deep Blue becomes Blue Oceans

Published

on

SSI, the world’s largest professional dive business-based training agency, continues its mission to raise public awareness on how to protect our oceans with their free conservation-based program, Blue Oceans.

Since its release in November 2018, we have received a lot of positive feedback on our Mission Deep Blue program. The number of students enrolled in the Mission Deep Blue program is increasing daily. We are proud that so many people live the philosophy and help to make a difference in saving the environment we all care for! Thank you for all your support!” states Guido Waetzig, CEO, SSI International GmbH.

Now SSI needs your help even more!

Due to licensing issues, we cannot continue using the name Mission Deep Blue. This is unfortunate, as many SSI Training Centers, SSI Professionals, and students around the world use and share this name and philosophy. But we will not lose sight of our goal and will continue to fight for our ocean and its inhabitants,” says Guido Waetzig.

SSI is excited to announce the new name of their conservation program: BLUE OCEANS. This new name represents SSI’s deep commitment to protecting all of our Blue Oceans around the world.

We cannot allow that in a few short years the ocean …

…will be home to more garbage than marine life.

…will have more bleached coral reefs than colorful ones.

…will have even fewer incredible underwater creatures.

…will still have to deal with ghost nets and overfishing.

…will continue to lose sharks, an apex predator, as their numbers dramatically decline due to finning practices.

Please partner with SSI to make the new BLUE OCEANS name well known worldwide so that this program continues to be successful, helping the ocean become a healthy ecosystem once again. Only the name is changing; the idea and concept behind it are staying the same.

What is the Blue Oceans program?

SSI has created a well-researched, holistic program that is available to both divers and non-divers alike. The Blue Oceans program teaches participants about issues facing our oceans and how their individual contributions can help.

The Blue Oceans program encourages SSI Training Centers and their customers to think about environmental challenges, and to take positive actions that benefit the environment.

The program was initially launched with three main topics. More will be introduced on a regular basis to keep customers informed and engaged. These initial topics were:

• Coral Reef Loss

• Ocean Plastic

• Shark Finning

A fourth topic will be released soon highlighting “Marine Protected Areas.” Anyone who has an SSI online account can work through the program for free and receive a free digital recognition card.

More information on this exciting program can be found at BlueOceans.world and on the Blue Oceans Instagram and Facebook social media channels.

Corporate Patrons provide a valuable boost to the work of The Shark Trust. The Trust team works globally to safeguard the future of sharks, and their close cousins, the skates and rays, engaging with a global network of scientists, policymakers, conservation professionals, businesses and supporters to further shark conservation.

Specialist tour operator Diverse Travel has operated since 2014 and is committed to offering its guests high quality, sustainable scuba diving holidays worldwide. Working together with the Shark Trust will enable both organisations to widen engagement and encourage divers and snorkellers to actively get involved in shark conservation.

Sharks are truly at the heart of every diver and at Diverse Travel, we absolutely share that passion. There is nothing like seeing a shark in the wild – it’s a moment that stays with you forever!” says Holly Bredin, Sales & Marketing Manager, Diverse Travel.

We’re delighted to celebrate our 10th year of business by becoming a Corporate Patron of the Shark Trust. This is an exciting partnership for Diverse and our guests. We will be donating on behalf of every person who books a holiday with us to contribute towards their vital shark conservation initiatives around the world. We will also be working together with the Trust to inspire divers, snorkellers and other travellers to take an active role – at home and abroad – in citizen science projects and other activities.”

Paul Cox, CEO of The Shark Trust, said:

It’s an exciting partnership and we’re thrilled to be working with Diverse Travel to enable more divers and travellers to get involved with sharks and shark conservation. Sharks face considerable conservation challenges but, through collaboration and collective action, we can secure a brighter future for sharks and their ocean home. This new partnership takes us one more valuable step towards that goal.”
