It’s time to get spooked with Regaldive
For those getting into the spirit of all things Halloween, why not consider a journey to some of the most spine-chilling places on the planet? With 70% of the earth lying under the water and the vast majority of it unexplored, UK based diving holiday specialist Regaldive recommends a hair-raising journey past creepy critters, mysterious wrecks and eerie underwater monuments.
Sunk by German bomber planes in WWII, the SS Thistlegorm has lain on the sea bed off the coast of Sharm El Sheikh for over 60 years and offers an eerie encounter for all who visit. This 415 foot former supply ship has visible signs of destruction but still houses the many, now antique, artefacts it was transporting including army trucks, tanks, locomotives, jeeps, aeroplane parts, motorbikes, boots and rifles. With batfish, giant tuna, snappers and crocodile fish now calling this mysterious wreck home, this isn’t a dive for the fainthearted.
The SS Thistlegorm can only be dived by qualified divers. Seven nights’ at the Falcon Naama Star, departing this autumn, cost from £425 per person, to include flights, transfers and B&B accommodation. A five day dive pack for qualified divers costs from £131 per person.
For those more unnerved by stillness, within the unsuspecting waters of Grenada lays a suitably haunting display of sculptures. Portraying an uncanny resemblance to real-life humans, the sixty five sculptures include 16 statues cast from the body of a local Grenadian woman, a lone figure poised over a typewriter, life-sized faces moulded into a coral boulder and most eerily of all, a ring of 26 children holding hands. Forever changing their appearance as a result of the currents, sea surge and marine life using the sculptures as an artificial home, these life-like sculptures are set to send chills up the spine.
Grenada’s Underwater Sculpture Park can be visited by all dive abilities including beginners, and snorkellers Seven nights’ at the Flamboyant Hotel, departing this autumn, cost from £1,458 per person, to include flights, transfers and accommodation. A pack of eight dives cost from £233 per person, to include air tanks, weights and local tax.
