Heinke Trophy 2016 – could your club be BSAC’s next winner?
Do you think your BSAC club has what it takes to be the 2016 Heinke Trophy winner? Then let BSAC know.
Registration is now open for the 2016 award, which aims to find BSAC’s top branch. Launched back in 1958, the Heinke Trophy is presented to the club considered to have done the most to ‘further the interests of its members and BSAC’. Each year, the winning club receives the prestigious Heinke Trophy plus £1,000 and BSAC’s 2016 winner will join the 45 other winning branches in the special Heinke Trophy ‘hall of fame’.
2015 saw Scarborough-based South Bay Scuba scoop the award and the search is now on for 2016’s winners. So if you have something special happening or want to share great progress in your branch – large, small, UK or abroad – then you should be entering for 2016.
Five reasons to apply for the Heinke Trophy 2016
- Great publicity – previous trophy holders have used their win to get publicity in their local papers
- Showcases your club – the Heinke is open to ALL BSAC branches, whether your club has a long history or it’s relatively new; a large membership or a smaller group. 2015 winners South Bay Scuba were only established 18 months ago and numerous previous winners have had memberships of less than 30. It’s the attitude, the activity, the passion for club diving and the innovation that counts.
- Can be a fundraising and membership tool – many previous winners have since found that the Heinke Trophy winner title has helped in grant funding applications and is an extra endorsement when bringing in new members.
- Has a cash prize – the winning club receives a £1,000 cheque to be spent on their club activities.
- Can boost your members – numerous previous winners have commented on the motivating and team-building impact applying for the Heinke Trophy has had on their members. “This really shows what a branch can do if it gets motivated and works together.” – Oxford BSAC, 2013 winners
You can register your club’s intention to apply for the 2016 Heinke Trophy award now by completing BSAC’s online registration form. Deadline to register is 30 November 2015. Final applications to be submitted by 31 March 2016.
