DIVE 2014

DIVE 2014 is almost here – and an exciting assortment of extra attractions have been added to this year’s Birmingham Dive Show at the NEC this coming weekend

What’s happening at this year’s Birmingham Dive Show? Recent additions to the talks and other in-hall activities include:

  • A DIVER Stage presentation by Andy Torbet (10.00am both days) introducing “Apeks at 40”, a special anniversary film
  • A late addition to the Ocean Theatre 2 speaker line-up  in the person of Sam Helmy – who helped Ahmed Gabr reach 332m in his recent record-breaking scuba dive
  • An additional talk (3.35pm Sunday) in Ocean Theatre 1 on Making Underwater Films by Bryan Stanislas (whose talk can also be seen on the Centre Stage at 5.10 on the Saturday)
  • An extra programme of talks in Scuba Travel’s new mini-theatre
  • The opportunity to book sessions in advance in the Try-Dive pool, with the Dive School at Stoney Cove
  • The chance to win an AP Commando BC worth up to £555 by taking part in the DIVE 2014 Visitor Survey
  • The new Taste of the Asia Pacific Café – an addition to other in-hall catering including the British diving-themed bar

The UK’s biggest and most popular event for divers, DIVE 2014 will host around 200 companies offering diving gear, holidays and services.

In addition to two in-hall pools dedicated to scuba try-dives and rebreathers, other show features will include Monty Halls’ new custom-built RIB, the New Product Showcase, the Marine Megafauna Gallery, the British Isles Experience, the Asia-Pacific Showcase and the Caribbean Village.

Of particular interest to underwater photographers will be talks on a wide range of video and photographic subjects in the PhotoZone, plus the latest BSoUP prints gallery, equipment galore and expert one-to-one advice on techniques.

And for those with training as well as travel in mind, experts from the likes of PADI, BSAC, SSI and SAA will be offering guiding hands throughout the weekend.

A free-to-enter draw will give all Show visitors the chance to win a dream dive trip for two to PNG worth £12,500 provided by Original Diving.

DIVE 2014 opening times are 9.30-6.00 on Saturday 25 October and 9.30-5.00 on Sunday 26 October.

Ticket prices start at just £8.50 for groups of 6 or more divers (a saving of £4 per person off the full price of £12.50).

Dive Worldwide Announces Bite-Back as its Charity of the Year

Over the next 12 months, specialist scuba holiday company Dive Worldwide will be supporting Bite-Back Shark & Marine Conservation with donations collected from client bookings to any one of its stunning dive destinations around the world. The independently-owned operator expects to raise £3000 for the UK charity.

Manager at Dive Worldwide, Phil North, said: “We’re especially excited to work with Bite-Back and support its intelligent, creative and results-driven campaigns to end the UK trade in shark products and prompt a change in attitudes to the ocean’s most maligned inhabitant.”

Bite-Back is running campaigns to hold the media to account on the way it reports shark news along with a brand new nationwide education programme. Last year the charity was credited for spearheading a UK ban on the import and export of shark fins.

Campaign director at Bite-Back, Graham Buckingham, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Dive Worldwide for choosing to support Bite-Back. The company’s commitment to conservation helps set it apart from other tour operators and we’re certain its clients admire and respect that policy. For us, the affiliation is huge and helps us look to the future with confidence we can deliver against key conservation programmes.”

To launch the fundraising initiative, Phil North presented Graham Buckingham with a cheque for £1,000.

Visit Dive Worldwide to discover its diverse range of international scuba adventures and visit Bite-Back to learn more about the charity’s campaigns.
