2013 Ocean Art Underwater Photo Competition Announced; Over $75,000 In Prizes Will Be Awarded

Underwater Photography Guide has announced that it is accepting entries for the Ocean Art Photo Competition 2013.
There are over $75,000 worth of prizes, including over 35 liveaboard and scuba diving resort packages, dive equipment, and much more. Grand prizes are an 18-night dive trip package combining 4 nights at Walindi Plantation Resort, a 10-night trip on the MV FeBrina and 4 nights at Loloata Resort, a trip of winner’s choice with Waow Charters in Indonesia, an 11-day Indonesia trip on the SMY Ondina, a 10-night Komodo trip on the S/Y Indo Siren and Oceanic OCi computers for 4 separate winners. Premium prizes are provided by Lissenung Island Resort, Bilikiki, the Nautilus Swell, Villa Markisa, Sea Safari Cruises, Kosrae Nautilus Resort, Atlantis Dive Resorts, Yap Pacific, Mike Ball Dive Expeditions, Alor Divers, Eco Divers, Ikelite, Lions Dive & Beach Resort, AquaMarine Diving, Juliana’s Hotel, Sea Saba, Maluku Divers, Blackbeard’s Cruises, Recsea and many more! This is one of the largest underwater photography competitions in terms of prizes.
The competition has 12 categories, including a Novice DSLR category and 3 compact camera categories, giving underwater photographers of all levels a chance to win a great prize. Unique categories include SuperMacro, Cold/ Temperate Water, Nudibranchs, and Divers/ Fashion. The more traditional categories include Wide-Angle, Macro,Marine Life Portraits, and Marine Life Behavior.
Winners from each category will be awarded a package at a fantastic resort or on a liveaboard. Winners will be able to rank the prizes they would like to receive, making it more likely for winners to receive a prize they want.
Judges include world-renowned underwater photographers Martin Edge, Marty Snyderman, Tony Wu, and Todd Winner. Martin Edge is the author of The Underwater Photographer, a top-selling book on underwater photography. Marty Snyderman has won an Emmy and has been published in dozens of top publications such as National Geographic. Tony Wu is a renowned underwater photographer and author of Silent Symphony. Todd Winner has won over 60 international underwater photo competitions and is author of The Shipwrecks of Truk.
Photos must be submitted on or before the deadline on November 10, 2013.

PADI makes a splash at Palma International Boat Show

PADI created a buzz at the recent Palma International Boat Show in Mallorca where a real-life PADI branded mermaid engaged exhibitors and guests to showcase their PADI Open Water Diver and PADI Mermaid Courses.
The Palma International Boat Show, a prominent event in the yachting and boating industry, witnessed an impressive gathering of 271 participating companies, alongside a stunning display of 252 boats at sea. Drawing an enthusiastic audience, more than 32,000 people attended the show, setting the stage for PADI to captivate a diverse range of individuals with their mesmerising mermaid concept.
Over the course of two days, the enchanting mermaid made an eye-catching appearance, gracefully circulating among attendees while distributing flyers highlighting the PADI courses. As the summer season approaches, this interactive approach aimed to create awareness and generate interest in PADI’s Open Water Diver and PADI Mermaid courses, inviting water enthusiasts of all ages to explore the wonders of the underwater world.
“Our presence at the Palma International Boat Show allowed us to engage with a wide range of yachting and water sports enthusiasts,” said Josep Lluís Massuet, PADI EMEA Regional Manager, Spain.
“By featuring our PADI branded mermaid, we aimed to capture attention, spark curiosity, and promote our courses that empower individuals to begin their underwater adventures, explore and save the ocean.”
