Title: Diving the wrecks of Chuuk Lagoon, October 2011

Description: A journey of some 36 hours and 4 flights via Singapore, Manila, and Guam from Heathrow, but so worth the pain! Absolutely world class wreck diving from liveaboard 'Odyssey'. My Canon IXUS 800 IS compact camera, using only natural light, could never do justice to what was on offer. Visibility was often rather generously described by the crew as 'sporting', but nothing could detract from what Chuuk has to offer. Big, BIG wrecks, penetrations led by expert local guides, and stunning artifacts such as enormous 'Long Lance' torpedoes, each 610 mm in diameter, 9 meters long, and weighing 2.7 tonnes stacked vertically in the hold of the Heian Maru. I was there in October 2011, so I suspect some of the wrecks have deteriorated due to the ravages of time and Typhoon Maysak which swept through the area in March 2015.
