A brilliant place to get away. No hustle and bustle. The staff could not do enough for us. As a family with a range of diving experience this is a great location that offers interesting diving from novice to more experienced divers. The accommodation is clean and we had no problems. Photographs of the pool don’t do it justice. It looks small but when we got there it is a good size and the kids loved it. It was also a welcome relief for us adults as Egypt is HOT in August. The team were always attentive providing drinks and were brilliant with the kids. They went out of their way to arrange a birthday cake one night. Food is tasty, plentiful and was OK for children with no complaints. Nights are sociable. We brought enough entertainment to keep the kids happy and they did not complain once.
The location is remote and this suited us. We like to get away from it all. You do get a chance to visit some of the more typical hotels where there is access to some of their dive sites and we were glad to be where we were.

For divers: I am usually a fairly independent British Diver. I have dived many places around the world but usually the majority of my dives are in the UK. My wife although qualified had not dived for over 10 years. Two boys aged 11 and 14 with basic qualifications. The team at Roots catered for us all. They offered refresher courses, guiding but were also happy to let us dive independently on the house reef. There are a number of options to provide variety including opportunities for trips further afield if you required. There is a reasonably stocked dive shop if you need any essentials on site. There was something for all of us and the centre appeared well run and safe. The topography of the local site means that it can funnel water off the reef and out to sea on the dropping tide so care is needed at this time. The dive crew warned us of this at a particularly bad day. It subsided after an hour or so and we had a great dive after. We did have one difficult return to the beach on one day which took a lot of finning. There is a rope laid from around 6m to the shore to help. We spotted turtles, great healthy coral, anemone fishes, squid, blue spotted rays, stonefish etc etc so plenty of variety. All the locally employed guides were fantastic.

I understand that the owners were away during our stay so unfortunately we did not have a chance to meet them (other reviews would suggest that we missed out). If they read this we would like to say that all the local staff were excellent! They were polite, cheerful, attentive and made us feel at home. They went out of their way to ensure we were safe in the heat. They offered us lifts travelling to the beach and back if they saw us. When we left they all turned out to wish us well which was really nice.

We would definitely stay here again and potentially come with a group from our local dive club.

Roots has been the home base of Deptherapy since our formation in 2014. Steve, Clare and the team have gone out of their way to support us. Accessible rooms, brilliant staff, great food, pool, bar and diving on tap.

The dive staff have been so helpful to out beneficiaries with mobility issues

Highly, highly recommended, you can see the plaques with have presented them with all around the place.

We all love it and that is well over 150 of us

For many years my second home in Egypt!

Totally welcoming atmosphere, an “Everything is possible” attitude and on top of all of that, a great house reef and many fantastic dive spots.

Cozy place built with loads of love an fantasy.

The total counterpart to all these exchangeable bunkers, which you normally find at the Red Sea.

You want a great holiday? This is the place to go!

World class on every level. From the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, to the delicious and plentiful food, gorgeous accommodation and utterly breathtaking diving, I’ve never stayed anywhere like Roots in the world, and I’ve travelled and dived extensively (over 1,000 dives in over 30 countries).

I’ve been lucky enough to visit Roots many times now – as an individual, as part of a group, on a family holiday with my two young daughters who dive (10 & 12), teaching several IDCs and now most recently with a big group of divers from my own dive centre. Each and every time I have felt safe, valued, looked after and enjoyed the most spectacular diving, both on the house reefs and on day trips to other gorgeous local sites. I cannot recommend Roots highly enough.

Fantastic place to stay – nothing is too much – great instructors & lovely house reef which is full of colourful sea life 🐠🐡🐟 accommodation is provided for all budgets & a full menu to cater for all food requirements.
Have stayed at Roots a few times and it is one of those places you will return to – great for solo divers of all abilities & groups .

Every trip I’ve had to roots, I’ve found the accommodation very clean and tidy, the food cooked to a high standard and tastes even better. Most importantly for me the guys who work there, go above and beyond to make you feel welcome included and comfortable just like part of the family thank you always a 5* experience

As with roots there is the main part THE DIVING I first went as a non diver and couldn’t of felt safer or looked after. Before you even enter the water the guys at the dive Center couldn’t be anymore more professional making you feel at ease whilst making sure you are safe and once you enter the water life instantly becomes less complicated and so much more beautiful I think I’ve visited Roots more than 10 times and like the first time always felt 100% welcome and loved my time in and out the water can’t wait till the next visit
A massive Thank you to Steve Claire and excellent team

I was introduced into the world SCUBA diving in 2022 with the charity Deptherapy. They have a very close working relationship with Roots Diving Centre. I suffer with depression and anxiety which I am very good at masking from others. The staff at Roots, mostly Egyptian are wonderful decent people who I now have the honour of calling friends and their hospitality and humour went long way to easing my demons. Steve and Claire, the British couple who own and run the centre are clearly experienced divers in their own right and safety is at the top of the list. I have been lucky enough to visit several times and it’s obvious to see the reinvestment that goes into the facilities. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and the food is excellent. If you’re new to diving or an experienced pro, Roots really does cater for everyone and yes I will be going back.

It is an excellent well equipped and clean dive center with a highly professional and qualified team.
Highly recommended for diving in the Red sea.

What a cool, tranquil place in the middle of the desert so it seems. A perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some diving in front of the resort. Such a special place, I only wish I was there longer than one night. I’d done a liveaboard on their boat Big Blue and done a night before my flight. I managed to enjoy an amazing night dive on their house reef. Full of some cool critters. I will get back their for longer next time.

This for me is the home of scuba diving. This is where I learnt my trade with Deptherapy and Roots Red Sea so to speak and was the only place I could find that would take me on with my disability. I have Multiple Sclerosis and a lot of scuba diving clubs would not teach me as I believe they did not know what they were getting into. Deptherapy and Roots made this possible. Roots Red Sea is a quiet and much loved part of Egypt. All of the staff from be it to watering the plants to getting me into the sea I could not rate highly enough, they will literally drop everything to help you. The accommodation is fantastic and as a wheelchair user the new pathway to get you around Roots is a blessing. The catering is equally as fantastic with nothing too much to ask for. Roots Red Sea is a true gem in the heart of Egypt. A must location for all scuba diving fanatics. I certainly will be revisiting.
