It may be winter in South Australia’s Neptune Islands, but for divers and snorkelers, the UK’s summer months (May to September) are the best time for the biggest shark encounters, with great white sharks loving the cooler waters.
Adventure to these remote islands and stay on board the Princess II liveaboard for three nights. The boat offers unrivalled cage diving and unmatched comfort in terms of accommodation, entertainment and facilities. Neptune Islands Marine Park is the only place in Australia where, in a cage, you can get up close to this protected species in their own environment; an experience of a lifetime.
Before taking the plunge with these magnificent creatures, dive locally and seek out the leafy sea dragon living among the kelp surrounding Kangaroo Island, visit the famous wineries of Adelaide and explore the rugged coastline of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Guests also have the option to take a tour to see koalas, kangaroos and sea lions.
All great white encounters are from a surface cage lowered from the boat. Qualified divers can upgrade to dive in the bottom cage on the sea floor, a unique opportunity to get closer to these magnificent apex predators. Non-divers are also welcome. All dives are co-ordinated by Rodney Fox Great White Shark Expeditions. Rodney Fox is a marine conservationist, a survivor of an attack by a great white shark, and one of the world’s foremost authorities on the species. He recently won the 2015 NOGI Distinguished Service Award.
