BSAC working with the National Trust for Coastal BioBlitz 2015
BSAC members and their families are being invited to take part in the National Trust’s Coastal BioBlitz 2015 – the conservation charity’s largest ever recording of coastal wildlife.
From April to October, 25 locations along the 775 miles of UK coastline looked after by the National Trust will be part of the BioBlitz – a series of fun, free events open to everyone. The interactive BioBlitz wildlife surveys will see National Trust wildlife experts work with schoolchildren, students and volunteers to record as many different species of animals and plants as possible.
BSAC will be working with the National Trust on a series of projects over the coming year and BioBlitz is a great way to get clubs involved in the protection of our coastline.
David Bullock, Head of Nature Conservation for the National Trust, said: “We know that people visit Trust properties on the coast because they are so beautiful. Our Costal BioBlitzes offer a unique opportunity for experts to tell us more about the wildlife that is on our coasts, and for visitors to learn more about what is in the rockpools and mud, and what is flying around at night on our coasts.”
All discoveries will be recorded and then submitted to local wildlife record centres and the National Biodiversity Network to help understand how wildlife along the coast is changing and how best to protect it. The National Trust will also use the findings to help determine the conservation management needs of each property.
