Students to get the BSAC vote
From 2016 all BSAC student members aged 18 and over will be able to vote in the BSAC elections.
BSAC Student members were previously not eligible to vote as part of the terms of their membership category but feedback from members has led to this positive change.
Delegates at the recent BSAC Diving Conference gave unanimous support for student members to be eligible to vote, which has now been implemented by BSAC Council. This change means that all current BSAC Student members will be able to vote in the upcoming BSAC 2016 elections. The 2016 elections will see a new Chairman and Honorary Treasurer as well as three Council member positions become available.
Speaking of the change, BSAC Chairman Eugene Farrell said the voice of the BSAC student membership was an essential one for BSAC.
“Our student members are important to the British Sub-Aqua Club and their vote counts – this is also their Club and it is important that they can have a say in the governance and strategic growth of BSAC.”
All eligible BSAC members will now be sent full details on the online voting process along, including online voting ballot paper via email in early March 2016.
Alternatively, members can choose to register for a postal vote. To register for a postal vote, email your name and BSAC membership number to marketing@bsac.com by midnight on 15 February 2016.
Could you be an election candidate? BSAC is also accepting candidate nominations for the Council positions that are becoming available in May 2016. Any BSAC member wishing to stand should complete and submit the online nomination form by 31 January 2016. For more information, visit www.bsac.com.
