A wooden replica of an 18th century sailing vessel, called Welcome, in Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay is the subject of a possible intentional sinking in the near future, with most members of the community in full support of the project.

Although no specific location has yet been pinpointed as the Welcome’s final resting place, but Traverse City’s only dive shop as well as the president of the Grand Traverse Bay Underwater Preserve have both expressed excitement for the addition of a new dive site in the area, while hoping that it will be placed at a depth that will be accessible to most recreational divers. A decision is expected to be made by early 2014.
