Love Sharks? Go to SHARK CON 2014
Although Shark Week is at an end, shark fans have another event to look forward to – SHARK CON 2014. Taking place at Tampa Bay Convention Center in Florida on the 3rd and 4th May 2014, the goal of the event is to raise awareness for shark and ocean conservation. SHARK CON hopes to educate, entertain, and inform the general public about how important sharks and the ocean are to our world. Conservation groups, entertainers, artists, scientists, and vendors will come together to give those attending the conference a very special experience. There will be dynamic speakers making presentations who will also partake in Q&A sessions. Some of the speakers tentatively scheduled to speak are Dr. Eugenie Clark “the Shark Lady”, world-famous ocean artist Wyland, social media and marketing expert (and founder of Shark Angels, United Conservationists and Shark Savers) Julie Anderson, researchers from several universities, personalities from the Discovery Channel and many, many others. There will also be panels to discuss different ocean related topics and issues.
SHARK CON organizer Spencer Steward had this to say:
“I always loved the air of community that San Diego Comic Con had and wished there was something like that for those of us that love the oceans. I also wanted to do something that could make a difference. So I decided “why can’t we do both?” I think the best way to effect change is through education. I wanted to create something that not only related to the scuba community, but would be interesting to someone who watches Shark Week. We could get those people in and educate them, get them excited about the oceans, and send them back out to spread the word. And, we could have blast ourselves.”
