Fourth Element launch new OceanPositive swimwear collection

Published

on

Fourth Element’s new Fin Collection, inspired by sharks and made with regenerated ghost fishing nets.

From oceans deep to vibrant reefs we find our most majestic marine creature, the shark. This once bountiful animal rules the open seas with a bold and elegant style. There are over 500 species of shark, all with different personalities, shapes and forms which have adapted to living in a diverse range of aquatic habitats. Their intricate skins allow them to move quickly through the water with ease and efficiency and their predatory nature is essential to the natural order of the ocean. Despite all of this, sharks are gravely endangered with over 200 species on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) red list.

Fourth Element’s Fin Collection takes inspiration from the shark in all its forms, offering a sleek, streamlined range which suits many body shapes and sizes. Intricate but bold, abstract prints with strong colour blocking are super-sized to represent our beloved sharks in all their magnificent glory.

OceanPositive swimwear collections are always designed with an active lifestyle in mind. Whether you swim, sup, scuba or yoga, be safe in the knowledge that our high coverage fits will keep securely in place. Most of our styles are also designs without bulky clasps or ties meaning they are ideal for wearing under a wetsuit.

As always, the swimwear and OceanPositive rashguards are made using recycled nylon from ghost fishing nets and other discarded waste. ‘Ghost nets’ amount to over 600,000 tonnes of lost gear every year. The main hazard is to marine life – from invertebrates to large marine mammals. They continue to fish, long after they have been abandoned, and account for countless lives. The netting, very slow to degrade, scrubs coral, creating a desolate seascape where they are dragged over the reef by shifting currents. Dive teams are removing these ghost nets from the wrecks and reefs, often at great depths, and bringing them up to the surface where they can be recycled and spun into nylon yarn.

Available online and through Fourth Element dealers.

Prices start at £29.95 / $41.95 / €37.44.
