Family Fun at The Great Northern Dive Show

How did you spend your weekend? My kids and I hung out with mermaids… fire dancers… a garrison of stormtroopers… Darth Vader and a rather convincing dinosaur that made my six year old run and hide… Where were we? Comic con? Theme park? No, a dive show!

The Great Northern Dive Show is certainly not your average dive show – and all the better for it. Having worked in the dive business for many years, I chose this show to introduce my children to the world of diving. Many of the usual suspects were there including distributors, training agencies, conservation organisations and manufacturers… alongside the sideshows above which made for a great atmosphere.

My children and I had a great time. I caught up with lots of old friends in the business, made some great new contacts and my children spent most of the day mesmerised by free diving mermaids and extras from Star Wars.

The only disappointing thing was that there were not more big names from the industry present. They missed out. Footfall could have been a bit higher but considering it was (unseasonably) the hottest weekend of the year, the event was well supported and certainly anyone who attended had a brilliant time.

Massive congratulations to Ruth Mort and her team who pulled off their second successful Great Northern Dive Show. I’m looking forward to next year’s event already… and so are my children, who now think Mummy has the best job in the world! Thanks guys.
