Atlantis and Atmosphere Resorts Helping Out in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan
This is taken from the latest newsletter from Dive and Safari tour operator Amazing Adventures Travel:
The good folks at Atlantis Dive Resorts & Liveaboards have channelled their own relief efforts towards the island of Malapascua which was in the direct path of Typhoon Haiyan. It is part of their liveaboard seasonal itinerary so they feel an affinity with the dive community there as well as having some of their staff from the island.
Atlantis has been coordinating relief efforts with the Puerto Galera Auxillary Coastguard and several schools in the region. Many of their staff have donated clothes, and have packed and sent goods to relief centers. Atlantis recommends Save Philippine Seas for donations.
Here’s more info on Atlantis Resorts and Atlantis Azores.
Atmosphere Resorts had a lucky escape from Typhoon Haiyan and so did most of the island. Dark skies, rain and high winds resulted in some cancelled flights and boat dives, but no damage. They have donated their Give Forward funds for typhoon relief.
Together with a couple of other resorts in Dauin, Atmosphere quickly sent two trucks up to Malapascua north of Cebu with a load of provisions, heavy machinery and building materials.
More about Atmosphere Resort.
The best thing you can do to help support the Philippines is to keep travelling to unaffected areas. Tourist money is relied upon to maintain the country’s infrastructure. Please remember that most places are still operating and were not affected by the typhoon.
