Tens of thousands of baby seals are killed in the annual commercial seal slaughter. As Canada celebrates its 150th birthday, it’s old enough that it should know better.
The commercial seal slaughter is already a mere shadow of what it used to be, because many countries have moved to ban imports of seal-derived products. Switzerland just became the 35th nation to do so, joining European Union member states, Russia, and the US. But despite the decline in demand, the Canadian government continues to subsidise this cruel industry.
